🎮 Controls
Before anything else — know your controls. Recommended settings:
- WASD — Move
- Shift — Sprint (use sparingly — sound attracts entities)
- E — Interact (doors, levers, objects)
- F — Toggle flashlight
- T — Flashlight intensity (hold for brighter beam)
- Tab — Hold to reveal (some UI elements)
🚨 The Golden Rule
You are not on a timer. Do not speed through rooms. Take your time. Check every corner, read documents, look for environmental clues. Rushing is the #1 cause of death for new players.
💡 Light and Sound
Two things attract entities:
- Light — Flickering lights usually signal The Angler is near. Get to a locker immediately.
- Sound — Sprinting, slamming doors, and loud noises attract most entities. Move quietly.
🚪 Lockers — Your Best Friend
Lockers are your primary hiding spot. Enter a locker BEFORE the entity reaches you — not after. Most entities will leave if they cannot find you within a certain time. If lights flicker — locker, now.
👹 Your First Entity: The Angler
The Angler is the first monster you will encounter. Signs: all lights in the room start flickering, and you hear a loud screaming from far away. Immediately find a locker and wait — it will leave after a short time.
📋 What to Do in Each Room
- Check for documents and data (some unlock lore, some unlock secrets)
- Look for valves — they can block steam pipes
- Listen for entity audio cues before moving
- Find the exit door before exploring too deeply
- Watch for flickering lights — always know where the nearest locker is
🎒 Key Items
- Flashlight — Essential. Always have it on in dark areas.
- Kroner — Currency earned from catching entities or finding items. Save for important purchases.
- Revives — Get codes for revives from our codes page. They can save a run.
🗺️ Room Progression
You need to pass through 100 rooms to reach the crystal. After the crystal, you need to find the submarine to escape. The first 20 rooms are relatively safe — this is where you learn the basics.
⚠️ Common Beginner Mistakes
- Sprinting everywhere — slows down when entity appears but you are out of stamina
- Ignoring flickering lights — by the time you see it, The Angler is close
- Opening every door without listening first
- Not using codes — free revives and Kroner can save your run
- Trying to fight entities — you cannot win. Hide.
